Some “sick” videos of St. Maarten

Today I am in the mood for showing some “sick” videos. Just take a look at some of the videos I have found. Let me know what you think.

First Video shows how close this 747 Boeing comes to the beach side. Princess Juliana Airport is the only runway in the world where you can try and touch the wheels on the airplanes making a landing. Now mention you read that here.

Let’s take a look at what St. Maarten “The Friendly Island” used to look like in the past, when you could have left your doors open and be scared that only the chickens would have passed through.

    Hi Alex,

Once again you have managed to blog a very important issue. The bottom Youtube video I saw some months back and I was very touched by it. This is a world wide issue and many think that because SXM is just a dot on the map sometimes not even visible to the naked eye that they do not contribute in any way to Global Warming. My main concern with SXM is that it has become to commercialized. I have never been so disgusted by all the traffic and congestion we have on the island and all the catering we do for Tourism. We longer have a culture to be proud of instead “THEY” think that becoming more americanized and modern that this will improve the island. I do not disagree with becomign advanced and modern but I do think it should all be done in moderation and with bounderies. The island always seems to overdo everything.

I remember when I was 11 or 12 and SXM was introduced to Cable TV, my MOM was so persistent in not getting it. I could not understand why we did not get it. I think as a matter of fact we were the last people to get cable on the island LOL after much begging. As an adult now I understand her mind set of not getting it. It is like a disease. It has corrupted many minds. I am not saying it is to blame for all our problems because then I will be saying that we are not responsible for our own actions, but if I look at the youth of today compared to when I was in highschool it has changed dramatically. Young boys no longer believe in being well groomed and well kept with manners instead they portray what they see on TV in the clothing, talking, violence. I see parts of the island have become territories and gang names and it is so senseless. I shake my head many times because their mind is corrupted. Many of these kids have not even left SXM and they idolise “THE HOOD” and “GANGS”.

I recently watched Al Gore’s “An Inconvenient Truth” and it was so moving. If you have not seen it yet you really should. He shows how we are destroying our world and only we have the power to change it before its to late. All the natural disisters affecting many parts of the world all have to do with our senseless and immoral acts on the earth.

There is much you can say about this as it is a major issue but I do hope and pray that in time that as inhabitants of this planet and not just SXM that we get smart and remember that we have no where esle to go and we should take care of our surroundings as we are very unique in this universe.

Yes, those were the good old days.
Now we have to be happy with the traffic jams, and bumper to bumper grinding.
