Be Your Own Goal

I want to leave you with a quote from Robert Holden’s book: Shift Happens…

Today, be what you want.

If you want love, be loving.

If you want peace, be peaceful.

If you want fun, be funny.

If you want “NEW”, be different.

If you want adventure, be open.

If you want success, be alive.

If you want joy, be kind.

I can’t say enough great things about this book, Shift Happens, it is just inspiring, amazing and fun to read over and over again…

Would Like To Say Thanks To A Reader

Written by Alex Marlin on October 30, 2007 – 2:26 am -

How often will you run into one of your blog readers?

Well, I can say it happened to me today, and I was happy to see that people are really getting some kind of value out of reading my blog. I always say that if I can inspire one person to make a change and improve their lives, then I have accomplished what I set out to do.

The people of St. Maarten are filled with pride and many of us don’t speak out and would rather leave things as is. But your encounter today really inspired me to make this blog even better. I promised to not use names, so for now I will just call you Nola. You know who you are and appreciate your honesty, you fully understand what I am trying to accomplish with my blog. Stop staying up so late reading this stuff, it’s catchy.

I have to also say that I was shocked that you wanted to make a donation, it really shows that the people of St. Maarten is reading my blog and are actually impressed. Your donation is more than appreciated and I know many more readers will get value from my postings and someday soon, one of my readers will approach me and show me what they have accomplished from my postings.

Don’t think this is something foreign to me, I have been giving advice to a number of kids for years now. Just about a year and change back a prominent lawyer approached me, and told me that it is because of my words of wisdom that she is what she is today. Wow, I was stunned, and speechless at the same time. I, being the modest person I am replied; It’s not me, you took action, so it’s your doings.

It really makes you feel great when you know how highly people think of you. And now that Nola approached me today, it actually widened my smile.

To all my other readers don’t feel no way, I have been watching each and every comment and responding to all of them. And I applaud all of you for your responses. One other poster that I would like to acknowledge is Estella, you have always had a bright smile. I always told you that you have potential, and the one thing that I want to see is you proving to me that I was right. To Nicole, everyone was wishing for you to fail, but you passed, it goes to show you that once your will power is stronger than the rest, none can stop you.

As time goes by, each and everyone of you will be mentioned in my postings with the name you used to post a reply.

It looks like I will have to open up a forum and attach it to this web site, so that we can have a discussion on any hot topics that I write about. If anyone feels the need for a forum, just post your response, and I will start working on programming that into my blog. that will give everyone a chance to make their statement loud and clear in a live environment, that way everyone will be able to see what others are thinking.

Life is what you make of it, and it all starts with a small little dream, I spoke of many things in my life and I always said that I would build a highly successful website where people can honestly learn something. It is finally happening and I could not have done it without my readers.

Stay tuned in, this is one way of educating yourself in a positive way and making yourself a better person. Sign up for the newsletter, that way you will always be informed when I make a new spicy post.

A Thank You Message For My Mom

Written by Alex Marlin on October 3, 2007 – 6:52 pm -

I love you Mom, thanks for being part of my life.I love my mom with all her heart

From a very young age my grandmother used to tell my Mom that she wasn’t feeding me enough and that is why I was so thin. So, my grandmother took me for a week, and after that week she said this dawn kid eats too much but just wouldn’t gain a pound. I was always thin, and it didn’t have anything to do with not eating enough. It has to do with a high metabolism. By understanding how your own system works, it was easy to gain weight, just more regular. You can read about how I went on to gain weight on another post.

I can honestly say, I have no regrets and I love my Mom, she was always a nice mother to be around, that was when she wasn’t drinking, and would do anything to keep her kids safe. I thank you most for keeping us together as brothers and making sure we kept in school. That education really paid off, and without your help I would not be able to build this blog and sit here typing away what I feel, and trying to help others improve their life.

You had it tough raising six boys on your own, and trying to make sure they understand right from wrong, keeping them out of harms way and making sure none of them would end up in prison or dead before their time. I know how hard it was and I love you dearly for the great effort.

I now have a family of my own, and I apply the rules you taught me

Thanks to you, I now have a wonderful wife, Judith and three lovely kids; Alexander Junior, Imani and Iovana all whom I love dearly. I can’t say I did it your way, but I have used many of the things you instilled in me and I am proud to see how well respected my kids are. I have shown my lids how to communicate, respect others and the most important is how to behave and be the best you can be in this society. Thank you again, for being around us and to watch them grow with us.

I can recall the time when I was away studying, and your heart was giving you problems. you called me and told me that you would not be around much longer and that really brought tears to my eyes. You always said to be strong and I did just that and responded, well this is not a topic for discussion. You will be around to see all my kids come into this world.

Heart problems so severe, but it wasn’t her time

A couple years after I came home, and you was really in pain, and they were telling you that you had to visit the doctors to see what was wrong with you. You were being pig-headed (and you wonder where I get it form), telling my brothers that you don’t want to do any heart operation and your time has come. You had a feeling it was your heart, but you never told us. I told you that it is unfair that you would want to die without seeing my kids. I promised you that I would be there for you while you go do your operation, and I would be waiting until you get back, because I couldn’t go with you.

You were scared of making the trip to Miami, because you were saying that your too old to have heart surgery and that it would kill you. Looking back now, I know anyone would be scared and I really was, but I know nothing would go wrong, because I was not feeling any loss or sad moments.

The $50,000 dollars life saver

Well, little did we know that it was going to cost $50,000 dollars for you to have that by-pass surgery. Wow, the price you pay to extend your life. but, it’s worth every penny.

Want to send a big thanks to my brothers, you guys put up the money and thanks also goes out to all the great Doctors in Miami, that helped extend my Mom’s life. It has been 13 years since that surgery and she is doing fine. She is getting older and her movements has slowed down. But, I know why! It’s called old age. At the age of 79 and still living in her own home taking care of herself, I don’t think she can wish for anything better. Honestly, she would have wished for her husband to still be around, but we are not the gate keepers, we don’t dictate over who lives or who dies.

We are scared of the unknown, but sometimes we have to venture out and do what many wouldn’t. My Mom did that and she has really lived a full and complete life, she really enjoyed her life. Has been to France, she really has guts to be traveling around all alone visiting these countries. She has been to the Holy Land. She has traveled the globe, been on a cruise and the most important and most cherished moment is to have lived to see my three kids come into this world.

The year after your operation

That same year after your operation is when I got my son Alexander Jr. And I saw the smile on your face and you reminded me of the story I told you when you had to do your operation, and I told you that you will be around much longer. You have one of those long lasting tickets on earth. You have been granted the three scores and ten plus a whole lot more.

Since that heart operation, you have followed a healthy diet, and stayed away from those fatty foods. I know you do cheat once and awhile, but your only human, I forgive you for that, because I would have cheated also. Life was good to you, you have six loving sons to be proud, you did your job well. You deserve your rest.

I am preparing myself for that sad moment when you will no longer be with us. But I am prepared, or I do hope I am, because I have had many great moments with you and still do whenever I come over to visit, we still laugh and I still make you cry with my jokes.

I love you Mom, I couldn’t have asked for a better Mother.
