Yes You Can - No You Can’t
Written by Alex Marlin on January 21, 2008 – 3:00 am -A lot of people can’t figure out what they want to do or why they are not happy. The process is kind of unlearning what has been taught or ignoring your upbringing and believing more in yourself. It is a type of impulsive way of acting and doing things that many would consider weird.
If your not happy with your job, then you should really look deep within yourself, a type of soul searching and start analyzing what is wrong with you or why your feeling bad about yourself. Many of the negative traits has been created from a very young age, and the doubt that you walk with today is more from disbelief and a very low self esteem that you have of yourself. Many of you can’t admit, or better phrased, won’t give into the problem, or the root of what is causing you to feel that way. And that is what I will try to demonstrate today.
As you go about your daily chores today, I want you to pay keen attention to what is happening in your mind. You have to witness how many times your mind will tell you that you can do this and a few minutes later say you can’t. That is the power of your brain, it is in a constant fight, fighting with your past programming and future demands that your expressing.
Many times, you will say you can and I do believe you can, but as you speak to people about your desire or the things you want to do, they will talk you out of it. And you simply follow what everyone says and not what you really want.
So why is this?
The answer to that question is trust and belief, believing in your own abilities and pushing beyond what anyone says. I can’t stress how important it is to believe in your own abilities and to stop seeking confidence in what everyone thinks of you or says to you.
To give you a great example, I will take Starbucks owner and CEO, Howard Schultz, who everyone believed that his simple idea of selling coffee to the to the US, from an Italian coffee-bar idea he saw, would fail. He didn’t listen to anyone and convinced the company to start one branch in the U.S. He later got his own brand of coffee bars and left the company he was working for. He then got enough venture capital together and bought out that company, and that is how Starbucks was born.
He later grew the company beyond beliefs and then decided to do the impossible, and that was to take this company overseas, to China. He hired seven top consultants to do market research, each one reported back to him that they don’t picture this culture walking around with Starbucks cups in their hands. He felt disappointed with their results and fired them.
Can you guess what he did?
He continued with his idea, and went into the market, and today, you can see many Chinese folks walking around with Starbucks coffee cups. It goes to show, just believe in yourself and your idea, many can’t see what your seeing, they don’t have the picture you have in your head.
The moral of this little story shows you that many people believe they know what’s best for you, but only you can seed your idea and make it grow, don’t let no one steel your dream, push forward and do what it is you want to do. When you find what makes you happy, it will show on your face, you will be a much happier person.
When I set out to create this blog, I started experiencing with website building, I didn’t tell anyone about the idea I had. I wasn’t going to let anyone stop me from doing what I wanted to do, because I know many would have told me that it would not make it or no one would read what I have to say, or getting people to visit the site would be impossible. Now, looking back, I am glad I did, many people from around the globe come to this site on a daily basis, because many are getting the benefits from my writing. Many people are greeting me, some whom I don’t even know. And much of the appreciation that I am getting is because of the great information that I have on my blog, and that came from the changes I made, and the personality that I have created. My attitude now is to always be helpful, alert and always listening to all. I try hard not to participate in negative talk.
I have many die hard fans, who really promotes my blog to many readers via word of mouth. Just want to say thanks, and I do respect and love you for what your doing.
Moving on to the meat of this post, and that is the naysayers, the people who are telling you, no you can’t. Once one person tells you that you can’t do this or that, your mind kicks in and starts sending all those negative feelings and emotional ideas of how you can’t and why you won’t. Your mind plays dirty tricks, and you will have to push beyond that and overcome the naysayers and fight your mind to prove you can.
The way to do that, is to just take the first step, by taking the first step, you will overcome any doubt you have and from that first seed, you will learn to grow and implant the idea you have much stronger. You have the ability to move mountains, but you have to first get in the habit of pushing beyond your comfort zone.
Let me repeat what I just said above: “Get out of your comfort zone, just start with that dream or idea you have, do something today and every other day from now on.” My motto, is to live with this one thought: “Yes, I can…”
Do you have a dream and your unsure where to go from here?
Would love to hear your ideas, and would like to know why you haven’t gotten started!

Do Not Loose Faith
Written by Alex Marlin on January 20, 2008 – 12:38 am -Today was one of those days when everything seemed to go wrong, and I was wondering why was my day going so bad, that’s when I took a break and was laying there thinking and decided that I needed something else to focus my mind on. I just couldn’t get the video script that I was using to work. It was really bothering me, that is when I always walk away from a problem and would come back to face it later. And I did just that.
As I came back, I figured out what was wrong, then it was time to look for a work around, I figured that out also. This led me to create this post.
Whenever things is bad, you should try to not think about the problem your facing. Things go wrong in our lives for many reason. Why? I just don’t know, but I know that we have to rekindle our strengths and move on. In life no matter how bad it is with you, there is always someone in the world who is in a worse situation than you.
I honestly wanted to give you something to think about and to make you understand why it is important to not loose faith. If we have faith, that means we believe, and once you believe in your abilities and yourself, the solution will come. I won’t make this a long winding article, because I have a video embedded in this page that I want you to listen to, it will empower you for today and for the rest of your life. It surely made my day, and hope it will do the same for you.
I will create a link to this post and whenever your feeling down, or in a tight jam, come back here and just watch this video.
This video is from a graduation speech where Steve Jobs was giving his speech of a lifetime, and to believe only today I found it. My Family Trip To China
Written by Alex Marlin on January 17, 2008 – 12:00 am -We got an early start in the morning, and began packing and getting the kids ready. Imani my eldest daughter was making mockery of the little bit of Japanese words she learned. It really pleased me to see how much they were enjoying the trip. I honestly believed they wouldn’t have enjoyed it as much, because it was my dream not theirs.
After a nice warm breakfast in that awesome hotel, it was time to call a cab and plan our next trip. The kids said goodbye to their new found friends, it was a very sad moment, because they had grown found of each other and the tears started rolling off their faces, it almost made me feel like crying. I warned the kids and told them to be very careful, because this is a huge country and we would see more people in one day than the whole population of St. Maarten. With that said we headed for the Airport, the kids were really sad, but that didn’t last very long, once we departed they got all excited again, and started talking about how they would hook up with some new Chinese friends this time.
The flying time was really short, just under three hours, and we got a midday flight, so we would be able to see lots of China before night fall. Once we arrived in China it was another moment of stares, the buildings really looked like in those Karate movies. It was just so funny, because I never believed that by just thinking of something so intensely, it could actually come to past. This moment was so real, it was like “dejavu”, everything I had pictured in my mind and in my dreams was really there in front my eyes. I had to pause for a moment for this to sink in, and for me to realize that this was… no dream.
We got a cab and headed to our Hotel, we were heading straight to the city, we chose to stay in the city this time, because I really wanted the family to get a real close up on the busy streets and the tall buildings. We got out of the cab in front of the China World Hotel, it was located close to some of the hot spots and that is why my wife decided for us to stay there, they say that China has some of the best shopping malls in the world, and I can vow for that, it is true.
Must be honest and admit that the ambiance here in this Hotel was a little too business like, and that didn’t sit well with me. I really wanted to get away from all the business people and just enjoy my vacation. While chatting with the front desk clerk, he told me that you knew this Hotel is part of the “China World Trade Center”, and they were having a top conference this weekend.
I knew of the hotel being part of the China World Trade Center, but I had no clue they were having a conference. I told the clerk, that we would only be staying for one night, and if he could find a similar hotel, a five star category type Hotel that would attract many of the conference visitors, that we could enjoy while here for this week. Their English speaking skills was much better than our Japanese friends.
He got us into a great Hotel, the name of it was…
Grand Hotel Beijing, was breath taking. I gave the clerk a $100 dollar tip. When your rich, money is no bother, just learn to give and more will come your way. And, you don’t have to be rich to give. The price was much higher than the first place were we stayed for that one night. He had registered us for the Ambassador Suite. I can’t recall the clerk’s name, but he was really nice, and did help us find a comfortable place to stay. I did tell him, that money nor price won’t be an issue.
When we got to the room, it was like heaven (well, I’ve never been there, but that is the only way to describe this suite) and earth blended together in one colorful atmosphere. From our room we could look down and see the Forbidden City.
No kidding, it was like heaven, we were treated like emperors and served the best of the best. The food we ate was well prepared and the aroma was just… can’t find a word to describe that. You will have to taste and smell that for yourself.
The same day we got a couple of maps, and everyone got to pick their favorite spot they wanted to visit. And that is how we spent the days, visiting all those famous mausoleums and monuments. Too numerous to mention. My wife loves Karate movies, and she decide that no way she would miss seeing the monks in action. We visited a temple with real monks, talk about mannerism. These guys were as real as can be. I did enjoy that.
We took a tour of Hong Kong, and even got to visit Suzhou, the lingering gardens were just unbelievable, and we took many pictures.
Now, for a fun moment. When we were visiting the Great Wall of china, my kids and their mother was pushing and tugging on each other to see who would get on the wall first and take the first picture. I have landmark on that wall. if you ever decide to visit, look to see if you can figure out who left this mark: “I dream of great things, and I made it to China, guess who?”
The most amazing moment was when we saw a grocery store. You have to see this to believe this. A traffic Jam in the store with the amount of people shopping at the same time. No, we did not go in, we just witnessed this and took a couple of pictures. The days went by fast and all I can say is, China was a blast. We really enjoyed ourselves.
While preparing to leave, we got a surprise visitor, it was the clerk we had met in the other Hotel. That was really sweet of him. He wished us a safe trip home and went to work, while we got a cab, and before we knew it, we were flying high on our way home.
Wake up… it’s over, this is the end of that dream, now comes the big moment. Will this remain a dream or will I someday get to really do the things I wrote in this post?
I can honestly say, that this post really made me feel like I have been to those places and I know you all have been there with me, we traveled together, across the globe and back. Now it’s time for you to go dream your own stuff, leave my dream alone, I have to fulfill this one.
Don’t you have a dream that you would like to fulfill?
